Morten KjaThe European Commission has proposed new rules for protecting personal data. In this context, the 3rd Annual FRA Symposium will focus on the fundamental rights dimension of the proposed data protection reform.

By bringing together key experts and stakeholders, the 2012 Symposium will highlight the importance of the right to have personal data protected, as enshrined in the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights.

The event builds on the work of the FRA, including the FRA report on the role of National Data Protection Authorities and its opinions on the use of Passenger Name Record (PNR) data.

Around 60 experts from national government agencies and specialised bodies, international and non-governmental organisations, and data protection institutions are expected to attend. Participation is upon invitation only.

Key areas

The 2012 Symposium will focus its discussions on the following elements of the proposed data protection reform:

· The right to be forgotten and the right of portability

· Powers and responsibilities of independent supervisory authorities

· Profiling – aims, modalities, safeguards

La Commission européenne a proposé de nouvelles règles pour la protection des données personnelles. Dans ce contexte, le 3e Symposium annuel de FRA mettra l'accent sur la dimension des droits fondamentaux de la réforme de la protection des données proposées.

En réunissant des intervenants et des experts, le Symposium 2012 mettra en évidence l'importance du droit d'avoir des données personnelles protégées, comme inscrits dans la Charte européenne des droits fondamentaux.

L'événement s'appuie sur les travaux de la FRA, y compris le rapport de la FRA sur le rôle des autorités nationales de Protection des données et de ses opinions sur l'utilisation des données de l'enregistrement de nom de passagers (PNR).

Environ 60 experts des organismes gouvernementaux nationaux et des organismes spécialisés, organisations internationales et non gouvernementales et institutions de protection des données sont attendus. La participation est sur invitation seulement.
